Active ISC2 chapters - are they real?

Apologies ahead of the point for the potentially cynical tone...

... but as I have been looking for an ISC2 local-ish chapter to join (I'm in "the sticks" of the rural mid-state/Hudson Valley NY) and expected that I'd likely have to choose between the Capital District (Albany NY) or metro NYC as was the case for my ISACA membership...

... I am quite dismayed to discover that (at least as far as my digging around on the various ISC2 affiliated portals that NYC (which one might reasonably expect to have a robust population of ISC2 certified members running various community support or cyber education efforts) seems barely active with only five members.

Parsing other major US metro chapters (on this site) seems to be yielding similarly low enrollment/involvement.  Am I missing something, or is the US-based ISC2 membership at large simply not interested in chapter membership?

Respectfully (and somewhat anxiously) yours,

Joe Raymond

Know that as a "cyber" professional, you are [VIRTUALLY] not limited to NY!

(1) First, I have been focusing on the Global Chapter award winners. Still searching for the 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 chapter recipients. Thus far I can only find a 2019 recipient: https://www.isc2chapter-centralflorida.org/events

(2) Second - I plan on not only attending the ISC2 Board election, but the July 8-9 (VIRTUAL) Chapter summit. Registration here:

(3) Then I plan to choose carefully by who is going the direction I believe I can develop a career.

Shon Harris was my personal favorite chapter speaker when I was shoved into this path by Iran breaching our DMZ. Still looking to NDR the place.

I do understand that most seem to be holding still. I miss Shon Harris.  She was the best chapter speaker when Iran breached our DMZ.

This second annual Global Chapter Leadership Summit (virtual) may help.

Here is last year's GCLS in 2023 which is where I expect to find some of the busiest chapters.

https://www.isc2chapter-centralflorida.org/ is a virtually busy chapter.  Their President, James McQuiggan was very active leading ISSA chapters.  So no surprise their ISC2 won the 2019 Global Chapter Leadership.  He is also leading the phishing company KnowBe4.Com that is currently linked to the CISA.gov weak password checker. https://www.cisa.gov/resources-tools/services/weak-password-test

I feel ISACA and PMI are more keen on developing the local chapters. Same here in Hong Kong.

But, in asia pacific region, Singapore ISC2 chapter looks quite active and strong.
