(ISC)2 mobile app, submit CPEs, vote, socialise, identify and vent via your digital pal who’s fun...

...to be with!

OK, probably not that much fun, or at least not at first however there was some talking about having a mobile app with for ISC2 @Flyslinger2@Wintermute-1.

Probably would be conservative at first digital membership card, show certification, submit CPEs  and maybe even vote in future board elections - just as soon as we can make enough BlokChainzTM to secure it...

Would be good to sample people’s thoughts, think up some strawmen, user stories and acceptance criterial and maybe take it to the board at congress.

Interested in folks thoughts on this, what would you like?

Not sure just how sarcastically you are stating that, given the blockchain reference, so, just to be sure:

<sarcasm>

And badges!  We have to have badges!

</sarcasm>

1) They can't even get the Website right, and you want an app?

2) How are they going to make the whole "community" available to the entire world if part of it is on our phones?

3) Is the new privacy policy going to state that everything on our phones is the property of ISC2?

4) Making it an app will ensure that postings on the "community" are even terser, less relatable to each other, and less valuable to the users.  (Which may be a good thing for the CISSPforum, so, go for it!)

A mobile application to cater to what you mentioned may appeal to (ISC)2, since it would get them a lot of participation --- as was intended with badges.

From my perspective, it would just create another mess before the existing one is cleaned up. As @rslade said, there are issues with the portal, privacy policy, and so on, which they ought to tackle before providing an app.

Then again, @Early_Adopter, if this was purely sarcasm, then yes, we should have a mobile app...!   Man Very Happy

Ah, now pure sarcasm simply won’t sustain itself, irony however is load bearing...

From what what I can see this biggest issues facing ISC2 on the ‘current mess’ are:

1.CPE submission is poor in execution;

2.They’ve crafted the community out of something that wasn’t really very well fitted(from portal to privacy policy it’s not great - I’m sure procurement people and the IAPP are laughing at us);

3. In making this community there was a ‘kick over’ of another older community on grounds felt by some to be spurious.

I feel a mobile app would probably be good for CPE submission at first - better than the current mess and mouth easier to regulate the experience on. I wouldn’t see an app and a fixed portal and a better privacy policy as in anyway mutually exclusive work streams.

You can’t fit as many badges on a mobile screen, but if we’re really into badges I believe the correct organisation to join is the scouting movement.

+1 on Grandpa Rob's 1)

"and vent via your digital pal who’s fu"

OK, I'll vent.

I know who's fu.. it's the CPE portal team!

By the way, for those who think a mobile app will solve anything with regard to CPE management, note that an app is nothing more than the User eXperience front end to the back office where the actual database system resides.

All evidence so far is that the back end database system for CPE is hosed, and the integration of the output report writer is munged badly, given the claims from (ISC)2 staff that even the most basic output screen cannot be changed without overhaul of the entire back end.

Your digital pal,

Craig

Agreed on that - though I haven’t looked into it deeply, and unless ISC2 looked at the data model we/they/us currently have, and the old one if available then it’s going to be shrouded in mystery, someone’s ‘hosed’ might be tractable to the right person(and vice versa).

UX wise we can see how this wasn’t the best migration/integration project(I’ll make your post the ‘solution’) and might have been made of stuff  want for a different purpose. A strction is my favourite thing from a CompSci standpoint If the data is there then reporting might be as easy as getting a proper tool and the right data wranglers.

Of course if it’s really borked, at this stage at it might be better to just build a new backend as a strangler, treat the old one as deprecated and move it over when the new backend is fit for purpose and more importantly  everyone agrees so.

Anyway, this(CPE submission) must be a thing for the new board to worry about and prioritise? Easy win.
