Re: Your new annual membership Fee is now $125! How do you feel about that?

Well, maybe at the beginning.

I mean, it wasn't an easy decision. It wasn't particularly difficult for me to pass
the exam, and it never was particularly important in my career. But it was proud
to have passed, and I felt that the contributions I was making to ISC2 were also
contributing to building the profession. Over the years I've invested an awful lot
more in ISC2 than simply some study time and the AMFs.

But this organization is no longer the ISC2 I joined. Back then it was a volunteer
organization and, although it made lots of mistakes, rather lovably bumbling. Now
it's a blinkered, hide-bound corporation, trying desparately to defend itself against,
well, it's own members.

Which simply points how how terribly bad ISC2 has been at communicating with its members ...

Re: Your new annual membership Fee is now $125! How do you feel about that?

That is a good point, rslade.  I am newer to ISC2 than you and only care about the certs, AMFs, and CPEs.

I was an avid member of another certifying organization 20 years ago.  I volunteered, contributed, and all that.  Then I realized that it really didn't do anything for me.  I grew disenchanted.  Now, at my advanced age, I understand that this is all transactional.  I keep the CISSP to keep my job, I complete CPEs to keep learning, and they get the AMFs.  I treat the certifying organization as a business, not a club.  That keeps me grounded.  Sorry you feel the way you do.

Aside:  I don't quite understand the Avengers vs Champions stuff going on here in this thread.  It seems like some other posters are trying to put everyone on a "side" so they can attack that side without nuance.  I am ignoring those who treat this discussion as a win-lose game.

The world is changing rapidly, and very shortly, if you have not been inundated already, there are many many new threats facing organisations - even security organisations being compromised from within.

The world is highly fragmented, distributed and we are missing the full picture.

We have to change and evolve with those new threats, we need to collaborate, actively listen and participate to develop our skills and those of others in order to protect our respective organisations, which includes protecting our integrity and level of trust too.

All organisations change, especially those who have gone through digital transformation, it changes the culture from within, and many are still struggling to move quickly enough with agility and some have gone too far the other way, to the point of using Agile methods to the point of eliminating their key personnel.

We have a firm baseline, lets build on that baseline and keep it gaining strength of character with tenancy, against the fast moving threats facing us all.

So have I, and so have others. So, given the "Avengers" comment, is this the ISC2 version of "infinity War," where half of us disappear?

Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't tar all the Champions with the same brush.  I figure I'm designated a Champion for the "community," not ISC2 ...

I'm seriously thinking of ditching the cert.

Anyone "seriously thinking of ditching" any cert during high unemployment is probably not thinking ahead.

Go ahead if you want.  I wish you luck in the future.

Re: Your new annual membership Fee is now $125! How do you feel about that?

For all of you CISSP cert holders, are you really going to abandon this cert because of $40 extra per year?  Just the PDI courses alone are well worth the trivial amount. Besides, CISSP is the most recognized security cert out there. Yes, there are other good ones, but for **most** employers, the CISSP is a benchmark especially if the hiring manager has one.

Also, since we are now a couple months into the COVID-19 global disaster, it might help you out over the next year to either keep your job or to find a new one.  Is it worth the $40 gamble to find out?  Heck, yeah!!!  Keep that $40 in perspective:  It will buy you about 20 large coffees at McDonald's. I don't think I'm a Community Champion, I just support (ISC)2 and am very pleased with what this cert has done for my career.
