Security Practitioners stressed, but carry on regardless?>

Hi All

https://www.theregister.com/2020/07/14/infosec_job_change/

How many people are thinking about a job change due to a variety of reasons?

"Almost one in five infosec pros have quit a job due to overwork or burnout caused by the constant pressure of keeping things safe and doing so without the resources to counter ever-evolving threats.

The is the gloomy picture painted by a report from the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CiiS – previously known as IISP), which surveyed 445 security specialists."

Does this ring true global security practitioners as well?

I feel that their stats are true.  Burnout is real although not recognized by health officials or management alike.

We have offered to do a session on this many times at Congress but never have had then selected....;(

As a manager, I used to monitor staff to ensure that they were not burning out or just super stressed.

I think that burnout happens in many industries and really is nothing new.....but usually goes unnoticed as the person typically quits and moved on.

The program committee is probably burned out and can't figure out which
proposals are actually important ...

Surely our priorities, encouraged by the handy histrionic soap
box that is social media, are increasingly sorely misplaced, our
common sense increasingly co-opted by no sense.

@rslade   I presume this comment is tongue in cheek?

And decidedly ambiguous ...

Q: If Socrates, Isaac Newton or Leonardo Da Vinci suddenly
reappeared, what would be the most difficult thing to explain to
them about life today?
A: I possess a device, small enough to carry in my pocket,
capable of accessing the entirety of information known to man.

I use it to look at pictures of cats and get into arguments with
strangers.

@rslade   What happens if they become "de-stressed"?

I think that this might lift my spirits a little and help with the stress and Burnout:  Can only imagine waking up everyday to the beach and the sun (not sure I would get a lot of work done but I would not be stresses).
