Absolutely, I can relate 100%. I had almost the exact same experience when I took my CC exam. I went in confident because I put in the time—studied all five chapters, drilled the terminology, and kept scoring in the 80s on the practice tests. I even reviewed the modules again right before the exam just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. But once I started the test, it felt like a completely different world. Maybe a handful of the questions actually reflected what I studied, and the rest seemed totally random or pulled from areas the course didn’t even cover. It was frustrating and honestly made me question the value of the prep materials. I’ve also been exploring other options now—so I completely understand the switch to something more comprehensive like the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. We weren’t set up to succeed, and that’s the worst part. Keep pushing though—you’re not alone in this!
I am inclined to go as far as agreeing with you, but on the basis that the whole industry has turned into a spectacle overburdend with opportunistic capitalist, its unfortunate but Hacking and SecOps has never been a Science so these institutions attempting to certify themselves and say hey our certificate means blah, is disgusting because the landscape of technology changes so quickly that even a foundational understanding of the landscape 2 years ago does you very little good today. Its not you its the education industry of cybersecurity and technology as a whole, you can't teach something which is so fluid using concrete ideals. My advice skirt all the certificates learn some marketable skills which you can demonstrate to perspective employers when the opportunities arise. I am a CISO of a SOC and have no certs but I assure you I can outperform many of the certified cybersecurity experts and college degree prospects, simply because I live and breath this, and am not burdened with having to split my time or commit to anything else, its truly a blessing.
