Congrats! So complete your endorsement process for your CC if you haven’t done so.
As you have experience in IT you are in much better shape than most of the folk I see here.
If you work for an employer currently then it’s good to ask them and look at your options to move within the company. It might not be right away but knowing the environment and people is helpful. Cybersecurity is a broad area - do you have particular roles you like the idea of you can focus on? Look at the job ads you like and tailor your resume to them.
You might join a local chapter or ISSA et as you’ll get chances to network etc.
I’ll Look at the Microsoft work you’ve been doing, for me the most valuable certifications I ever got to me was my MCSE: Security - this let me work with a wide range of technology and get a job pretty instantly after leaving the Army. It and the Security+ I did as an elective then helped me work for a MS partner selling security solutions . If you find you need additional certs Security+ is very recognised and others from MS will help you showcase your experience as well as demonstrating practical ability.
Keep reading the cyber security news and taking an interest in happiness, be enthusiastic.
Set goals and milestones, and be ready to change things up if it’s not working, but do remember security roles are trusted positions so it might take you some time to get offers.
Lastly be realistic and grounded in all things - you won’t get that six figure CISO role right away, so knowing that the path through will mean perhaps a year or two vetting identify and access requests and you might find it not so exiting is all part and parcel of steering your career to the right place.
