Chris moved into retirement on 1 July 2021 and has chosen to let membership lapse in 2024. Chris is a highly experienced Cyber Security Professional having held Information Assurance (IA) roles as Manager, Enterprise Security Architect and Consultant. Specialising in UK government and defence business domains with over 20 years’ experience in Information Assurance (IA) disciplines. Chris has a wide experience of military and civilian IT systems though the design and development of comprehensive information security architectures for complex network and information systems in line with organisational requirements.
Chris has been an Information Security Manager for teams of up to 5 specialist engineers and a staff manager for up to 9 team Members, whilst developing his wide experience of military and civilian IT systems though the design and development of comprehensive information security architectures for complex network and information systems in line with organisational requirements.
With experience in the public (Central Government, Government agencies, and Defence) and private sectors (consulting, professional services, technology design & development, and banking), his understanding of the design principles required to support embedding security into IA architectures informs secure development activities. Chris enables the incorporation of IA requirements, which ensures the IA element of an enterprise architecture is cost effective and proportionate to the risks associated with information systems and the wider business need.
This experience has led to a thorough understanding of the connectivity, interoperability and security requirements of large multi-level communications systems and IT networks and has been driven by a pragmatic, appropriate, cost effective and proactive, customer-oriented approach through a career that includes International Collaboration with UK, US, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Israeli, Canadian, NATO, Swedish, and Spanish components and peers. His understanding of the design principles required to support embedding security into information security architectures informs secure development activities. Chris enables the incorporation of information security requirements, which ensures information security architecture is cost effective and proportionate to the risks associated with information systems. His career, gained through a full Military engagement and employment with large scale system integrators, has led to a wide and varied experience within the IT industry with exposure to several programming languages and formal training in a handful of methodologies. It has involved work on mainframes, mid-range systems, and PCs, the use of many software packages, and exposure to every stage of the development life cycle.
An Incorporated Engineer of the Engineering Council (I.ENG, since 1998), Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS CITP, since 1996), Fellow of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers (FIAP, since 1992), Founder Fellow of the Institute of Information Security Professionals (F.Inst.ISP since 2006), Founder Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (MILM, since 1992), and Founder member of the CLAS Forum Board (2008-2012). Also, Membership assessor and interviewer for the IISP, and Assessor and interviewer for the CESG Certified Professional (CCP) Scheme for the IISP Certification Body (CB) and previously an ITPC application Assessor and ex Fellow of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (FIMIS, since 1993 - until merged with the BCS). Recently (July 2015) appointed to the Accreditation committee of the IISP and as an Accredited Training Assessor. More recently qualified as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) with ISC2 since Feb 2015 and appointed a Director of both the IISP (Feb 2016) and of the Trusted Software Foundation (TSFdn (2017).
