Hello everyone,
New to the community? Have a question? Or just want to tell us a little about yourself? Feel free to do so in this thread.
Hi All
My name is Darren Chapman, I'm based in the UK and I've recently started a Cyber Security Consultancy called CyberScale, alongside my day job which is working for a Software company called Ivanti.
I've been in IT around 20 years working across mainly WIndows infrastructure, desktop, security and end user, both on the internal side and the consulting side.
For my new company, I'm concentrated on strategic security consulting including the techincal aspects of data protection particularly with GDPR coming. I'm working closely with a local legal firm in my area so that we can provide rounded advice covering both the legal and techincal elements of GDPR as well as the crossover between GDPR and Cyber Security; let's work together to give clients the best advcie rather than jockeying for position is my view (it's a "legal thing"...no, no, it's an "IT thing" etc.).
I'm looking forward to benefiting from the experience from everyone in the community as this sector grows and grows! Always interested in collaboration particularly on cross-geo issues. Feel free to connect with me.
Take care
Darren Chapman, CISSP

Hello Everyone.
My name is Pat Hairston. I'm currently the Information Systems Security Officer/Regional Network Manager for the EPA Campus at RTP. I'm a retired Army Signal/53Series Officer. I hold the CISSP and the CAP.
Good to be here!
I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and have been in technology now for over 25 years, primarily in software development. Seventeen of those years have been as an independent consultant working with at a variety of clients, of varying sizes, in various industries.
My pursuit of Information Security started with an interest in privacy, and the growing technology climate in light of this past year’s events.
Being new to the field, I don’t have any certifications. Part of my interest in this community is to gain a better understanding on how to approach this career change. I hope to get some advice on how much I can do independently, how much requires more formal training, and how best to go about it. My next stop is the Certifications section.
I look forward to learning from other’s experience and getting some advice.
Take care!
Dave
