ISC2 Member - Looking for advice and Job in Cybersecurity

Hi,

I'm an experienced Senior support engineer with experience in Cybersecurity Awareness Program [Proofpoint and KnowBe4] and security operations [Ms 365 and Box.com]. I recently passed my ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity [CC] and have become a Member, aiming to work exclusivement in Cybersecurity.

I have also finished the training in EC-Council Security Operation Center Analyst and will pass the Certification exam next month when Global Knowledge exam center in ready. I know Splunk, Sentinel and Wazuh. I will also pass the CompTia Network+ in November.

I need adoption and guidance to start a Cybersecurity job in Spain. Any advice will be appreciate.

Thanks a lot

@cyber2025   Congratulations on passing your CC.  I would advise against posting your member id.  I have seen instances where that was misused by others.  I know that things are different in Europe, but a person does not get much recognition with anything from EC Council overall.  Network+ is much less recognized than Security+ which has flooded the job on this side of the pond.  Even Security+ is not well recognized outside of the US.  Since you seem to have some experience, you might want to think more towards the CISSP which is the most recognized cybersecurity certification.  I would recommend the SSCP especially since I feel like you probably have the required experience for it.  The only down side is the AMF increases to $135 USD but would cover both your CC and SSCP and would not increase when earn any other ISC2 certifications.  If you earn Network+, you would be paying $100 USD.

I do know that both ISC2 and ISSA have some presence in Spain but don't know anything about their chapters.  Those and any other cybersecurity organization chapters would be good places to meet people in the field locally.  They would know the job climate best there and be aware of potential openings and be great resources.  Buena suerte.

Thanks so much @nkeaton. I have already joined the ISC2 chapter in Spain. I will work with them. Thanks for suggesting the SSCP. I will work toward it.

Thanks so much

Amani

@cyber2025   De nada.  Thank you as well; that is great to know.  You might see what ISSA has there also.  They are definitely internationally recognized.  I just want to make sure that you don't spin your wheels heading too many different directions at once and glad to give advice but definitely want you to do what you feel is best for you.  ISC2 and CompTIA have very different continuing education requirements as well.  Some people get overwhelmed by continuing education on just one organization let alone multiple ones.

Congrats on both counts, first for passing the CC and then taking the EC-Council courses.  A number of EC-Council certs are in demand in both NA and the EU.

Based on your LinkedIn and what you have listed in your note, I think I would be inclined to do the CISSP (if you stay with ISC2)

As to advice on a job, if you search the Community there are multiple threads that discuss this with others (sorry working from my phone at the airport,  so searching is difficult).

Joining the local chapter is an excellent start in seeking employment.  Both ISSA and ISACA have chapters in Spain.  Check out Bsides as well.  All good sources for networking.

I also recommend that you talk to folks in your own organisations to determine opportunities.  Sometimes there are Security projects that need additional staffing and you might be able to do a temporary assignment.

I see that you have experience in Security awareness...one way of building the resume is do volunteer work (schools (both teachers and students), Scouts, seniors)
