Hi!
I am reviewing SSCP Official ISC2 Textbook Ed. 5.
I believe it has a wrong question or a wrong answer:
Regards
The logic of the question vs. answers is wrong.
D is not purge, as a drive reduced to particles cannot be reused.
C is not purge it is a clear operation, reformatting will not remove the data and it would be possible to reconstruct the data as it still exists as a magnetic pattern on the disk.
B is not purge it is a clear operation, erasing the files using an operating system delete command would still leave the data as a magnetic pattern on the disk. Delete does not erase data, unless you were using ATA Secure Erasure commends.
A is the only option presented which modifies the magnetic pattern on the disk so that it is practically unrecoverable outside of a lab and would therefore be a purge operation.
See NIST SP800-88 for further details on media sanitisation.
Strange that the question doesn't cover cryptographic erase or data fragmentation.
Terrible question. Years ago, we made efforts to remove all questions that were worded negatively (should NOT, etc.), seems they are slipping back into the trainings.
Also found this exact question on Course Hero (word for word). Not sure who wrote it first.
@CBMExamTeam would you be able to review? and comment?

Thank you for reaching out via ISC2 Community with this question.
I see the screenshot is from the 5th edition of the SSCP Study Guide, which is not the most current. We are now in the 6th edition, which may have removed this type of question from its content. However, please submit a query via our form
and include your specific question(s) related to ISC2 certification courses.
@dcontesti is correct - our exam writers work very hard to remove ambiguity and what might be perceived as "trick" questions on ISC2 exams.
What I can tell you is this:
Items are written in such a way that a competent candidate can choose the correct response. Our examinations adhere to technical guidelines that deal with the content of the items, their relevance to the profession, their appropriateness, their timeliness, their reasonableness, and their relationship to the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). They adhere to grammatical guidelines that deal with the style of the items, their structure, consistency, clarity, bias, and readability. These guidelines ensure that the examinations remain impartial, valid, and relevant to maintain our ANSI accreditation.
Please know - We cannot teach the actual exam; there is an ethical wall between Training and Exams.
Our exams test the way you can apply the knowledge, skills and abilities listed on the exam outline and taught in the course.
Hope this helps.
Hello!
Thank you for your reply!
It makes no sense to test any knowledge with incorrect questions or/and answers.
I don't agree "....a competent candidate can choose the correct respons" with wrong questions.
It is not first invalid question, which confuses me. I just wanted to verify if it is a known case.
I filled submit a query via our form However it would be helpful to have an option to attach a screenshot.

Hi!
I need to adjust my exam strategy, instead of replying the question, I need to choose the MOST correct answer.
I wonder how many questions in the real exam like that!?
