This is Kosher, and permissible?

According to press releases, the FBI do thousands of inquiries using the DMV database, without user consent or did the client just forget they gave permission by default?    Or they have not found the opt bout tick box yet?

User consent. You're joking right? We are living in a surveillance state.

Unfortunately in the US, this information is covered by the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DDPA - circa 1994) in which it states:

Personal information may be obtained from motor vehicle departments for:

  • Legitimate government agency functions
  • Insurance purposes
  • Use by licensed investigators or security services

This is only a partial list of what the law covers, so looks like it is Kosher, maybe......
