Singapore publishes factsheet on GDPR

If further evidence was needed as to the international reach of the upcoming European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Singapore's Personal Data Protection Commission has issued earlier this month a factsheet highlighting the key requirements of the GDPR to organisations in Singapore. The factsheet does not contain any new information and is extremely high level, however the fact that a non-EU country releases such factsheet is interesting.

Access the factsheet here:

Thanks, very interesting all the same, that some countries particularly in Asia Pacific are taking a rather relaxed perspective.  As I work for a global organisation, literally every service, solution including software and hardware has to be GDPR compliant throughout.   But fortunately this work commenced at least 18 months to 2 years ago.

Rest assured that SG will approach this in a more pragmatic way and less legalistic.

As much as we like in a pragmatic way before its intention is lost, the legislation is meant to regulate data controllers and processors when dealing with data from data subjects in the Union. Furthermore, Singapore is not a Member State or PDPC is not part of WP29/a member of the impending EDPB. While the PDPC attempt is commendable, it is limited in its own way. It is best to seek out your identified Supervising Authority for guidance on enforcement and interpretations of the GDPR. There is lots more details to it than meets the eye...
