Why can't we log in directly to the community ?

So maybe someone will be able to explain why, in order to log-in to the community, I have to first log-in to the ISC2 website, then click the community link, then click on sign-in to the community, and only then am I logged in to the system.

We are pretty far advanced in being able to pass credentials in a safe way between sites, especially when they belong to the same organization, so there should be at least an SSO automatically between the two sites. The fact that their isn't, is incomprehensible.

In addition, why can't I log in directly to the community ? Why am I forced to access it only from the main site ?

And if we are already on the subject of bugs, issues with the site, why is there no location (in the community when opening a new post) for issues with the website itself ?

These may seem small issues, but they are annoying, a time waste, and not what one would expect from an organization as supposedly advanced technologically as ISC2.

I did some rudimentary analysis of the issue and posted it here:

I have another bug on the CPE portal in that I can't access my "Active Transcript" as I get an error saying "Error occurred while loading a Visualforce page." Does anyone else get this?

Disclaimer before comment: I am a certified ForgeRock Engineer and Identity Access is my passion.

I used FR at my last gig for 20k+ users with a mixture of onprem and cloud devices.  You don't get this mess that ISC2 has with their "SSO solution" their provider has implemented.  Your secure MFA token goes with you where ever you traverse in the customers domain.  It's seamless and the user experience is very smooth and professional.  It allows the user to do what they are supposed to which is to be productive.

The SSO solution here is quirky at best.

I've experienced exactly the same thing, and asked about it here some weeks ago, but didn't follow up on it, and am just doing it from the main site now.

Yes, with these issues being so persistent, there ought to be a dedicated location for posts on them. It's the least (ISC)2 could do...  Man Wink

In my experience with the kludge, there is a slightly shorter way. I log in to ISC2,
and then open another window to the "community." When it opens, I am logged
in to my "community" account.

YMMV

(I note that, for the past year [with one very notable exception], I haven't logged
on to the "community" at all. As long as I don't explicitly sign out, every time I
open a window to the "community" I am logged on. This has survived monthly
(and other) platform updates, a few crashes, a power failure, and numerous updates
and restarts of the browser. It's been consistent whether I've been logged on to
ISC2 or not [mostly not].)

Oh, ISC2 already seems to be doing the least they can do ...

Re: Why can't we log in directly to the community ?

As a lot of us have seen, signing in to the Community directly doesn't work, so you'd have to go to the main site and sign in there, then avail of SSO to sign in on the Community.

Today, I had an interesting experience: When I tried to reply to a post, I was prompted to sign in --- but this time I was already signed in on the main site!  (Check the picture below)

SSO Dilima - 01.png

I attempted to enter my credentials and sign in on the same page, but clicking on 'Sign In' had no effect, as usual. The only option was for me to sign out and sign in again.

@SamanthaO_isc2, I trust the development team is going to fix this soon --- if not, you should provision a location for complaints, coz there'll be more...

Re: Why can't we log in directly to the community ?

I am quite sad to see that there has been no input from anyone in "power".

The issues we raised are important to the ability to want to continue being an active member of this community, and when there is no feedback on problems, there will be no input at all.

If I come to this years conference in Orlando, you can be sure I'll be raising this at the town hall meeting as well as in person.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is (ISC)2 attempting to motivate someone like me to attend the conferences!

It's really annoying when I want to reply to a post here, get prompted to sign-in, see it fail, and have to do it from the main site before jumping back --- I'm very likely to just close the page rather than go through it all.

@SamanthaO_isc2, this issue is becoming a hindrance, and the suspense is definitely a killer; we'd all appreciate feedback on how it's being addressed...

Thank you for giving us your feedback on this. We understand this is important to all of you, and it is equally important to us. I am working with both our vendor and internal teams to identify and resolve the issue. While I cannot get into the specifics, please know it is something I am staying on top of. As soon as I have more information to share, I will update you here.
