A friend once had charge of NASA's networks. He told us that, at that time, they
were extremely paranoid about breakins since when it hit the news (even if the
system only held the lunch menus for the staff caf), NASA's budget got cut $10
million.
I once taught at NASA: I mean, literally teaching rocket scientists. Since security
was not necessarily their field, it was an ... interesting ... experience. I have a lot
of stories from that week ...
