What happens if Mitre looses funding again

I have been keeping an eye on the news:

I am wondering that in 12 months time if they loose funding again, then what will happen to the CVE database ? I trust they have backed this up somewhere and someone can pick it up if they loose the ability to look after it. 

Seems like if this go down, the whole community will panic. Any thoughts ?
