SHARP, Japanese manufacturer of electronic devices. Makes many things, mostly appliances, many IoT and controllable via smartphone.
Started to produce face masks in the clean room of a former LCD factory. Started shipping to medical facilities. Started sales of face masks to the general public, via its Website, on April 21.
After which, users of SHARP IoT devices began reporting they couldn't control their devices any more.
The authentication server for the IoT devices runs on the same physical server that runs the Website. The new load on the Website meant that the authentication server couldn't keep up with requests ...
