Got woken up by a spam/telemarketer/vishing call today. Obvious machine generated "voice" telling me it was calling from "Amazon Prime Number ..."
For me, it is dumb Robocalls and a ton of SMishing.
When I am unsure if it is a spam voice call I answer with.
"This is a recorded line. Do you have an existing case number or do you need to open a new case?"
Most Spammers just hang up. Anyone that really needs to talk to me just sounds confused.

Vast majority of mine either hang up immediately or try to sell me an extended warranty on a vehicle I haven't own in over a year. Must be hundreds of these companies as I always ask to be removed from their list, block them from calling again and yet next week here's another offer.

That is why all vehicle sales and registration information should be held as private data by the states and federal government. They should never sell or provide our vehicle or home information to anyone. That data should be used only so the state can contact the vehicle or home owner.
Privacy, when will the state and federal legislatures take it seriously?
It's unbelievable that in 2018 people can still spoof a call from my phone number with basically no effort or risk of getting in trouble. My hometown is small (I've only ever had one phone number so the area code is from there), I'm getting real tired of confused old people who actually know me returning calls I didn't make.
