OK, *now* we're in trouble ...

For some reason, on the Johns Hopkins CoVID-19 dashboard, Canada, as a country, has disappeared.  (If you switch to the province/state/dependency mode, the individual provinces with infections still show up.)

This is disturbing, for someone who lives there ...

@rslade   There are two reasons why the building may be on fire:  1)  It was deliberately set  2)  The 5G Cell tower has been set on fire.

Everything has changed, no one wants to spend money, they just want to bury their heads in the sand, and hope it goes away.  Or as the UK have done mandate that everyone wears masks in public or you get fined.

Or do you ensure the second, third wave and carry on going to the beach and surfing like the Australians - She'll be right, it always will be.   No it wont.

The facts should never stand in the way of getting rid of your kids for a while (or permanently ...)

A few weeks back I had to take a decision on whether or not to get a haircut. A friend suggested making the best of YouTube & trying it at home, but I finally got one at a hair salon.

(For the record, I'm still working, and am asymptomatic so far)

Part of the problem of discussing the pandemic issue is that, as some have said, we
don't actually have a global pandemic, but a global collection of different
pandemics. I notice your numbers are fairly high, compared to ours, and BC only
has about a fifth of our national average. So, even though the barber trims my
beard as well as my hair, getting a haircut isn't as scary for me. (For the past week
or so, we've had about 20 cases per day out of about 5 million population, and
most of those cases can be traced to specific parties and other idiocy.)

I don't wear a mask, on a regular basis, although I do carry one in case anyone gets
upset. I've used it five times in four months (twice to drive my neighbour for his
kidney transplant). (If I was taking transit these days I'd use it, but I'm not.)

Mind you, if I lived in the States, I wouldn't go out of the house without one, even
though masks are much protection for you: it's mostly protecting the rest of the
population *from* you, if you are infected. (Mostly, I wouldn't go out of the
house ...)

(Glad you are asymptomatic so far 🙂

Vancouver has a rather infamous area known as the Downtown Eastside.  In a confined area (30 blocks) there is a large population (roughly 15,000) of street people, most having underlying health conditions.  When the pandemic hit, it was considered a kind of foregone conclusion that the virus would sweep the area causing massive damage and a huge death rate.

Didn't happen.

Now a study is underway to try and find out why.  It's possible that there is simply some kind of social isolation between the street population and the rest of society that has kept them safe.  But it may be that there is some kind of immune system protection that could be further examined and developed.  It'll be interesting to find out.

Probably the isolation......when I was in Vancouver we would go miles out of our way to avoid the Eastside.....(well maybe not miles but definitely blocks). It will be interesting to see the results of the study.
