I suspect this story will be all over the media, given the number of reports I've seen already.
Given the wording of the FBI warning, this attack, if it happens, will more likely be of the "ATM cashout" type, with teams of casher crews, than of the jackpotting type (although that might still be an issue).
So, what should you do?
Well, if you're a bank, stop using Windows XP in your ATMs. (I mean, really ...) And have someone babysitting intrusion detection systems on your ATM networks until you do.
If you are not a bank? Well, not much you can do. You might make sure you have extra cash on hand leading up to the Labour Day weekend. Maybe do the occasional online check on your account over the weekend for spurious transactions?
