Interesting article it confirmed what I expected those that the must vulnerable were the stand alone ATM you see at sporting events and convenience stores. I use to work for an armored vehicle service that delivered cash to ATM and I always viewed these as easy targets as the bank ATMs even the stand alone drive thru ones had a considerable amount of physical security to deter would be thieves from tampering with them.
What surprised me was the time needed to do this attack. They have to connect to the hard drive, infect it, reset equipment using a borescope. This is not 30 seconds and they are gone.
Plus it will take quite a while to remove the cash.
I am sure that the FBI and Secret Service will find them and parade them all over as a deterrent.
Law Enforcement as a control.
