Court decision on Google facial recognition technology

An interesting lawsuit and decision.

 

Google has technology that creates a "template" of a face when a photo is uploaded, and then can identify the same person in other pictures.

 

Illinois has a law that limits what you can do with biometric data.

 

However, the plaintiffs in this case seem to have based their case mostly on what Google might do in the future, not what they are actually doing, so the lawsuit failed.

Very interesting topic.  Regulation around biometrics will continue to evolve over the next few years.
