Bluetooth issues - change your hardware

HI All

We have always known that Bluetooth can be very poor in security in certain circumstances for years, well here is some issues, which demand the replacement of the hardware to fix them in many cases.

Unfortunately there is also a chip shortage, and it raises the question about all those IoT devices which have embedded Bluetooth capabilities.   How do they get updated?  Or do you have to dig them out of the walls or lifts etc?  Or even Smart Cities.

OK, I'm going to sum this article up with this quote, "the researchers first needed to perform code execution on either the Bluetooth or WiFi chip. While this is not very common," seems like another example of people claiming something is much bigger than it really is. Some of the devices the listed are either rather old, or like the iPhone should have had the iOS updated so it is no longer a problem...

Or did I miss something?

Yes, some of the exploits have been patched, but where it is not possible, then hardware will need to be replaced.

"Some of the above flaws can only be fixed by a new hardware revision, so firmware updates cannot patch all the identified security problems."

This becomes an issue with embedded IoT devices and others, where you may have no choice but to replace them, if it is possible.
