I don't understand why there is a need to implant tech inside the human body for identification purposes when we are carrying around our identifiers every day all day long. Our thumbprints, our faces.
For a contactless identification a camera can do. You can recognise a person from his face, his walking..
It is contactless and there is no need of any medical procedure.

Biometrics are a "Simple Security" measure, more in depth measures require 2 or 3 Factor Authentication. Multifactor authentication can be something you have/own (chip/smartcard), something you know (password/pin), and something you are (Biometric). Two or three of these measures increases your security standard.
I can understand from a personal liberty viewpoint that there may be a lack of desire for intrusive insertion of a chip.
However, from a technical and financial viewpoint, which is where most businesses draw their morality, it is more responsible to the bottom line to deploy RFID readers (often already in place for ingress/egress) than it is to deploy facial recognition, palm or retinal scanner technology.
A tiny chip into the back of the wrist posts no moral qualms for me
These views are similar to a report given out by IBM earlier this year, the results are shown here:

It makes some interesting demographics and non acceptance of certain technologies and approaches.

Like Cats and Dogs, often the Microchip goes missing - re-insertion of said device is recommended by Veterinary Professionals, on the annual check up.
