Entry Level Cybersecurity Role

Hi Everyone. I would love any insights or career guidance.

My name is Hammaz Ahmed and currently I'm pursuing my masters in Cybersecurity from Saint Louis University.

In my 3 semesters of university, apart from studies, I have done the following certifcations.

  • PSAA, Practical SOC Analyst Associate, TCM Security
  • CCNA, Cisco Certified Network Associate
  • CDSA, Certified Defensive Security Analyst, Hack the Box
  • Blue Team Level 1, Security Blue Team
  • CompTIA Security+

I actively participate in CTFs. Do tons of Lab practice on HacktheBox, Cyber Defenders, and Blue Team Online.

I have around 8 months of IT Experience. 4 Data Analyst Trainee, 4 Technical Support.

I made projects on Network Architecture using Cisco Packet Tracer, SIEM Lab building and currently working on my Active Directory Project,

Here's my LinkedIn: @https://www.linkedin.com/in/hammaz-ahmed-01005821a/

Question: How can I upskill myself more? I want to land a SOC Tier 1 role. But since i understand the job market is rough, I am also applying for Technical Support, IT Help Desk, Junior Network Engineer, and SYS Admin.

Any suggestions will be greatly helpful. I want to learn and upskill myself more.

One way in is to join an organisation's IT department and then look for internal job openings in their security function.  You'll need to ensure that they have a sufficiently large cyber security or SOC function and that it's not outsourced to a third party service provider.  This could give you the advantage of having time to understand the organisation's IT and business operations which may give you an advantage over external applicants.  The other advantage is that there are more IT job openings than there are in Cyber Security.
