Introducing the New Chapter Group Hub on the (ISC)² Community!

(ISC)² is pleased to announce the new Chapter Group Hubs on the (ISC)² Community!  Group Hubs is a new resource for (ISC)² Chapters to be able to connect, communicate and collaborate with chapter members and users of the (ISC)² Community. Every (ISC)² Chapter will eventually have a group on the Community. Some chapter groups will be open to all Community members to join, while others may be closed and only available to their registered members. Feel free to contact an (ISC)² Chapter or request to join by visiting the Chapters option on the top navigation menu of the Community, choosing a region and finding a chapter. Please note the following:

  • If the chapter group is Open, you can click on the chapter group, view the discussions, and click on Join Group Hub to automatically become a member of the group and start participating in discussions. You will also start receiving notifications from the group in your inbox.

  • If the chapter group is Closed, you will need permission to join the group. Simply click on the chapter group and click Send Request to Join. The chapter group owners will either approve or deny your request to join.

To join and participate in any group or board on the Community, you must be a registered user. Once you join a group, you will see it listed under the My Group Hubs area on the homepage. Here you will be able to easily navigate and access all the groups you have joined.

If you have any questions pertaining to the new Chapter Group Hubs, post your questions below or contact us at chapters@isc2.org

Hmmmm. I am not sure that a) this is a good thing overall, and b) that this is
possibly a very, very bad thing to have implemented during the pandemic.

First off, the "Chapters" group, as previously implemented, was a useful tool for
sharing tips and ideas about how to get/keep your chapter going. Since ISC2 HQ
demands all kinds of info and processes from chapters, but does as-close-to-zero-
as-makes-no-difference in terms of helping groups get off the ground and continue
to function, *any* resource of this type is rather desperately needed. And
anything, no matter how small, that makes it even marginally more difficult for
all groups to collaborate and interact is a travesty.

The Vancouver Chapter wants to be open. Wide open. All of it. All the time.
Anyone can join. Anyone can read. Anyone can contribute. Got that? That's
the setting to use. Since ISC2 never did anything about helping us, locally, to
communicate, we've already set up our own channels for both public discussion
(send email to infosecbc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or see
http://www.infosecbc.org/contact-us/mailing-lists/ or contact rslade@gmail.com
for an invite to the Slack channel) (I hate Slack). We have a Twitter feed. We
have a LinkeDin group. (We're ashamed of it, and never use it, but we have one.)
So the *only* reason to use the "community" is to provide *other* groups with
information about what we are doing, and find out ideas from them about what
they are doing. And to announce our meetings, which are free for anyone to join
and participate in, particularly during the pandemic. Got it?

We don't want to note that. We don't want anyone else to have to note that. We
want all of our stuff to pop up whenever anyone types "vancouver" into the
search box. We want anyone who looks for anything related to chapters to be
able to read all of our stuff.

Oh? And, since I am the only member from the Vancouver Chapter on the
"community," why have a not been informed that I'm the group owner? If I'm
not, who is?

Right now I can (as far as I know) easily communicate with the other Chapters. I
don't want to jump through any other hoops to have them read my stuff, and I
don't want to have to jump through hoops to read theirs. I don't want anyone,
even a non-registered, non-user visitor, to be barred from seeing our
announcements.

Oh, yeah, I've got a *ton* of questions!
