What in the world is neurodiversity?

I have enough trouble keeping up with racial diversity, ethnic diversity, Screen Shot 2021-03-09 at 11.09.14 AM.png diversity, [the site pr0n filter auto-edited the word in the image to the word the site placed in double asterisks ]**gender** diversity, gender diversity, political diversity, victim diversity, body image diversity, and diet diversity!

@CraginS   Glad you asked that question:

Neurodivergence and Neurodiversity is fully explained simply here:

https://www.open.edu/openlearn/health-sports-psychology/mental-health/neurodiversity-what-it-and-wha...

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/clearing-up-some-misconceptions-about-neurodiversi...

Fortunately, I work for an organisation, which not only seeks these people, that also understand and except them in the workplace and the give them meaningful work and problems to solve - which is immense value especially when you assist them to express themselves through "Artificial Intelligence" or sometimes referred to as "SMART Technology".  A lot of them, go on to become Researchers and create new patents and ideas, that us "normal" beings would probably not think about, given our upbringings.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-06-03/ibm-program-offers-austism-employment-hope-neurodiversity/111...

Regardless they view the world differently, which has immense value when solving business problems or even complex ones such as working in a Security Operations Centre (SOC).

They are valued people, with meaningful ideas, which can expressed and brought to life.

If only other companies would do the same.

But, John, you did not answer my question, you just sent me on a research run myself.

Can you give us the short synopsis and THEN send us to other sites?

@CraigS, having watched your session on Supply Chain Attacks via Linkedln, I now have a little more understanding of your diverse background.   It was a good talk, by the way, well presented. https://rumble.com/vedre7-modeling-the-supply-chain-trust-but-verify-iccws-2020.html

Okay:  Synopsis of Neurodiversity:

"Neurodiversity is a term used to describe neurological differences in the human brain. ... Put simply, this means that humans' brains are wired differently, and those differences can have a direct impact on an individual's thinking and learning. These differences are often diagnosed as neurological conditions."

"Neurodiverse people frequently need workplace accommodations, such as headphones to prevent auditory overstimulation, to activate or maximally leverage their abilities. Sometimes they exhibit challenging eccentricities. In many cases the accommodations and challenges are manageable and the potential returns are great. But to realize the benefits, most companies would have to adjust their recruitment, selection, and career development policies to reflect a broader definition of talent."

And the link to the Harvard Business Review is:

Hope this helps?

Now back to Supply Chain Attacks and reality.

@CraginS - After determining that the above message (that hit my e-mail) was not one of the strangest phishing attacks I've seen lately, I'm fairly confident that there was a typo and that it was meant for you.  I will check out your supply chain attack video as I've been meaning to get one out myself :-).

Thanks,

Absolutely. I mean, autism is fine, but truly crazy people, like me, are definitely
underrepresented in the field. And we have very few silicon-based life-forms, or
even hybrids. Then we should get some aliens ...

Yes, that does help greatly! Thank you. And now with the context, I have in mind how key characters on The Big Bang Theory reflect a surprisingly accurate depiction of the genius that can exist on the spectrum.

Thank you, John, I must credit the many co-authors of the paper, led by a grad student Theresa Sobb and her advisor Benjamin Turnbull at U. of  New South Wales, AU. I just happened to be the only one of the team who was able to get to the conference in Norfolk last year as the world was just learning about the breadth of the building pandemic. If you or @CraigS are interested, the paper abstract is at ProQuest, and I can send you the full paper directly if you wish.

As for my speckled background, I've just added the page A bit a bout me to my newly re-hosted and rebuilt blog, which may give you a better picture.

@CraigS sorry about the confusion. Cragin is my given name (explained in the above linked page) but it is just enough unusual that I use both it and Craig interchangeably. Let's hope future cross- identifications are as serendipitous.

Hi Caute_cautim,

Good on you for posting this.  I have been doing lectures on Neurodiversity to MBA cohorts for about 18 months now and the feedback has been consistently that it has been one of the most influential topics in their entire MBA year.

The first point is that in any field or domain that requires a high degree of creative or independent thinking,  there will always be clusters of neurodivergent people already - many of whom will have no idea to what extent they think and learn differently to most people.  I focus on trying to encourage businesses to not only recognise this,  but to enable these people to work on change from the inside of the organisation out (rather than the outside in approach many organisations are providing services for).

As a couple of examples,  people might be interested to know that the GCHQ in the UK appear to have a public preference for Dyslexic people in the cryptography space and I have heard rumours of at least one countrys' cyberwarfare group being almost exclusively Autistic.  It tends to be the organisations that are focussed more on outcomes than image,  if that makes any sense.

If anyone wants to learn more and have their mind blown,  I am happy to run you through a 1 hour lecture which I can guarantee  to blow your mind - with me doing this for free,  you have a 100% money back guarantee (ha!) and no,  there's no sales pitch.  It's something I know as a manager and leader is an essential piece of understanding.
