The free CC training should be fine, get above 90 on all the exams, then do it again and get 100s (but understand why the questions are right or wrong, and don't assume the questions will be on the test).

Some of the test questions are very frustrating with seemingly no correct answers, or all correct answers (pro tip, there's only one correct answer per question lol). In these cases though, dissect the question for meaning or intent (sometimes it hits you quickly what they're looking for after a second or third look). Then look for themes in the answers themselves and start grouping them together--you'll quickly start to narrow down from 25% chance of selecting the correct answer to 50% or better.

But the ISC2 materials seem to be fine to me. The people who are suggesting to study Sec+ aren't exactly wrong, but that is way too much for the CC -- most of that cert doesn't pertain.

Not true.  As in life, on an ISC2 exam there are very few questions where there is only one correct answer.  Your job is to pick the "most correct" from a series of choices, multiple of which will be correct in some sense and wrong in others.

Think of it this way.  Given these answers,

  1. 2
  2. 4
  3. 6
  4. apple

You will NOT be asked "Which equals 3+4?".  Instead, you will be asked "Which is closest to 3+4?".

The answer is definitely Apple
