Membership card renewal

My initial membership card expired last year and I have since renewed my membership online.  When will I receive a new card with a new expiration date?

I think mine took about 4-5 weeks to arrive.

I think the cards and certs are sent out on the three year schedule. (Although,
come to think of it, it's been a while since I saw a card ...)

Now when you complete your 3 year certification cycle, you get the whole member kit of certificate, card, and pin.

When I renewed my two certs at the 3 year cycle last year, I got both kits.

Seems it takes 4-6 weeks for the kits to go out, both for new folks and renewals.

@medolfan Once you renew, a new certificate package will be mailed to you within 12 weeks. If you live in the states, you will likely receive it within 4-6 weeks. If it has been more than 12 weeks since your cycle start date, please email me from your primary email on file and include your member ID number and I will look into this.

Charles,

Has anyone ever required your card to authenticate you in any way as a CISSP or for access to a meeting?

For that matter, has anyone ever asked to see your card at all?

Have you ever shown your card to anyone without being asked?

I've been a CISSP since October 2002 and have NEVER been asked for my card, or used it for any purpose.

Same questions for everyone else on this thread: @Brewdawg @rslade @emb021 @amandavanceISC2

Rather obvious money saving idea for (ISC)2:

Stop printing and sending cards to members. Just provide a PDF for download from the member's personal profile area that can be printed locally. To be really cool, provide a digital card that can be saved in Apple Wallet and whatever equivalent Android app exists.

(Do we really care whether M$ Windows on mobile phones has such an app?)

Sorry, I like having an actual card.  And I have membership cards from other orgs.  I hate just having a card that I have to print out from a website.  There are means to inexpensively provide a card.

With ISC(2), the card comes with your cert & pin in the membership kit.  So its not like a big expense, and ISC2 isn't hurting for money...

Well, there is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DZkpynFhak&t=46s

I do recall that some company, when they had a bunch of people get certified, had
actual full-sized physical badges made. One of them carried his when travelling,
and, once when travelling by air, was pulled out of the security line-up and
bypassed the security scan and pat-down. He figured that they'd seen the badge in
his carry-on luggage xray, and decided he was an air marshal ...

I've never paid much attention to the card before, but now I'm feeling inclined to carry the renewed one with me as I'll be flying to a few countries in the coming days.

If there are any welcome / unwelcome consequences, I'll share them here... Man Wink
