Hi there. Great to see all you kids (don't mind me. To me anybody who isn't drawing social security is a kid) joining the "community." Great to see you getting involved and contributing to the discussions. It's important, both to you and to the "community" that you don't just "lurk" in the background. (Some other time we can discuss why it's important for you ...)
But, well ... ummmm ... as terrific as it is that you are posting, I wonder if, maybe, you could give a bit of thought to where you're posting? And I'm not even worrying about the "Locations" (which are the main categories like "Welcome," "Career," "Tech Talk," "Industry News," etc.)
No, I'm talking about when you reply to a topic with something that's completely off-topic.
For example, why reply to a blog post about the Excel badge with a question about insider threat? (Indeed, why reply to a blog post about badges at all?) If you want to discuss the insider threat, why not find a post about insider threats?
After all, at the top of pretty much every page on the system is a search box. And, if you type in a word or two, it'll quickly find you topics (and labels and tags, but that might be a bit more advanced for now) using that word. (You don't have to hit return and get the full search, which can take a while ...)
While we are on the Excel badge blog posting, why try to open a discussion on the future of technology there? In blog postings you aren't even replying to someone else's posting, if they happened to mention something about the future of technology. You can only reply to the original blog post (which was about the Excel badge ...)
Why post about CPEs in a posting about whether or not (or how) someone passed the exam? (That's putting the cart before the horse, isn't it?)
(And is it fair to blame Nigeria for "Hakuna Matata"? They get enough grief over the modern version of the "Spanish Prisoner" scam ...)
And why reply to one of the ISC2 admin promotional blog posts with "Fantastic idea!"? Of course they think it's a fantastic idea! (No matter how dumb it is!) They thought of it! You're only going to give them a (collectively) swelled head.
So, to reiterate, when you want to talk about something, find a topic where it is already being discussed. Or start a new one. But do a quick search. You've got searching options built in to the system. Or even use Google. Yes, you can! We've talked about it. Complained about it. Discussed privacy implications of it. And even noted how you can use it to find things you can't find with the "community's" own search function. (Which is weird ...)
(And, if you've posted on the topic before, and can't find you own stuff, we've even discussed that ...)
