There’s so much to learn in Information Security. Earning the CISSP is marginally the tip of the iceberg. One of my courses for this summer term is Big Data Analytics with all the security and privacy implications there. There’s no joy in being a ‘generalist’ anymore. I love learning, but no one can know it all. The best thing that any security professional can do is pick a niche or two, specialize and settle in. I like leading teams, though I am really enjoying my personal time as an IT Security Consultant. I figure after about 5-6 years, I may settle into an academic position. I suggested to one colleague of mine to keep one’s mind in the game ALL the time and to continue to pursue industry certifications if college is not his cup of tea. This is truly the quintessential knowledge profession.
