Criminals break into dealerships and use drones to steal tractor GPS units, which can sell for up to $7,000 each on the black market. 🚜 🛸 🔨 🏃➡️
While working on a risk model for commercial vehicles, a Chief Hacker came across a very interesting use case in the UK that he wants to share. Public sources indicate that criminals are putting significant effort into targeting tractors, and given the scale and resources involved, it appears to be highly profitable.
What we know that thugs do:
🕵 They break into dealership databases or buy them from hackers to obtain owner details 🕵 They allegedly hack into GPS tracking systems of vendors to access Geo-location data. 🕵 They break into garages and smash windows to steal equipment from the cabin. 🕵 They operate at scale - at least hundreds of such devices were reported stolen in 2023.
A new but familiar risk - remember how thieves stole car radios in the '80s? Same approach, different equipment. What’s different is how heavily these gangs invest in technology to steal technology.

I live in a very rural area. The automation available to agriculture today is quite impressive. It may be a good topic to share with neighbors, because the costs for these parts are outrageous.
