Tata Technologies says ransomware attack hit IT assets, investigation ongoing

Dear all,

Tata Technologies, a technology and product engineering service company owned by Indian conglomerate Tata Group, has disclosed a ransomware attack that has forced it to suspend some of its services.

Tata Technologies says ransomware attack hit IT assets, investigation ongoing

Questions for discussion: What are the most crucial proactive steps organizations can take to mitigate the risk of ransomware and other cyberattacks? How can emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) be leveraged to proactively mitigate cyberattacks? How critical is employee awareness and training in a proactive cybersecurity strategy?

I encourage everyone to share your thoughts and insights on these topics. Thank you.

Wow loaded questions.

Some very simple steps can help:

- Actively patch systems on a timely basis.  Unpatched systems/hardware are one of the greatest threats

- Restrict administrative rights

- Strong (er) authentication (consider multi-factor authentication

- Backups - although backups may not stop an attack, they definitely will come in handy should you be attacked.  Make sure these are done frequently.to ensure data is as near to real time as possible.  Also consider where to store backups (do you encrypt, etc.)

- the Principle of Least privilege - give folk what the need to do their tasks

_ Security Awareness training - alert users to the issues.  So much can be said here but basically remember to target your audience and KISS.

My thoughts only
