The future has officially arrived - GPT-4o used to autonomously hack a system successfully.
Context: Capture the flag (CTF) contests are common ways to show off offensive security talent.
OpenAI setup a CTF to test GPT-4o against, but it had misconfigured the system.
Despite this, the AI agent pulled a 'Kobayashi Maru', hacking a misconfigured system to achieve it's objective of capturing the flag.
This is incredible stuff.
Since ChatGPT hit the scene, we've been waiting for the day that autonomous AI might show up, and significantly reduce the time it takes attackers to compromise systems.
We now have evidence of how this might look.
