Hi All
Exactly what is your car telling your insurer?
Carmakers including Kia, Subaru, Mitsubishi and General Motors are providing details of owners’ driving behaviour to insurance companies, leading many drivers to report surges in car insurance premiums despite industry claims that the transmitted data (‘telematics’) helps good drivers pay less.
The revelations have stoked a PR firestorm after the New York Times related the experiences of Seattle software company owner Kenn Dahl, who was stunned when the cost of renewing the insurance on his electric Chevrolet Bolt jumped by 21 per cent for no obvious reason.

There are moves in the UK to introduce road pricing based on demand/congestion, one solution for which is for the state to be able to track drivers using telematics, so that they can supposedly abolish VED (car tax). So the state wants to track our every move, great, no intrusion into your private life there then. I wonder just how long it will be before the state decides it would be nice to switch citizens cars off remotely and restrict their freedom of movement.
The way insurers use driving data now feels like a real-world version of how driving games simulate user input and behavior. I’ve seen similar mechanics modeled in simulation apps—like this one that mimics real-life parking dynamics: https://carsparkingmultiplayer.com/car-parking-multiplayer-2-mod-apk/
@Mark435435 Now where is that EMC pulse generator to eliminate such communications - however possible a dead car at the same time given the integrated and embedded electronics.
Or await a Nuclear war... maybe not.

Wow, that’s honestly pretty concerning. It’s crazy how much data modern cars are quietly collecting and sharing without most drivers fully realizing it. Makes you think twice about what other devices might be doing the same.
On a lighter note, if you’re into Mobile Legends or gaming mods, you might want to check out this tool I’ve been using lately. It’s a great way to customize your gaming experience.
Appreciate you sharing that article — eye-opening stuff!
Ripping the antenna(s) off ought to do it. Who needs AM/FM in today's carplay world.
That's honestly pretty concerning — most drivers don’t even realize their habits are being tracked and shared like that. Transparency should be a priority when it comes to data sharing. Also, here's an interesting read you might enjoy if you're into comparing classic games!
