Keep this community clean from commercial activities

Let's all work together to make this community commercial free!

There are certain members purposely linked commercial sites in their postings, and sometimes even embedded in some seemingly information sharing to get attentions.

No spammers, please!

I whole-heartedly agree.

No spammers or business ads.

Like @Chuxing & @dcontesti stated, this community is primarily for sharing knowledge --- without any apparent / hidden costs --- so we shouldn't be seeing ads posted all over.

What @CraginS recommended would greatly benefit those who are looking for services / solutions --- so long posts that advertise these are limited to a dedicated area.

We could get the best of both worlds here, but that would demand effective moderation, obviously the responsibility of the moderators...

If a dedicated area is created for posts, the guidelines should be edited, and new members who join should be asked to read these before they begin participating. When any posts violating the guidelines are reported, they can initially be taken care of --- edited / removed --- along with a private message sent to the poster, to ensure that he / she is aware of what they've done wrong. After further violations, members should be barred from making posts for a specific period --- & if it continues even after this, their accounts can be removed.

@SamanthaO_isc2, what's your stance on this, and how might it be handled?

I love the points that you brought up @Shannon - they have been running through my mind since the idea of a specific area for these types of messages has come up.

I can see this going either way - creating a space or not.  I think that both have their pros/cons.  I would love to hear from more members to see what their thoughts are, though. There are definitely implications to the guidelines if we start allowing these posts and also to moderation; however, if there is a big need for an area like this, then it is something for us to explore to see what we can do.

Trebor the Magnificent sees all and tells all!

Trebor gazes into his crystal monitor ... the mists of Time are parting ... Trebor
sees ... about a month and a half of discussion on whether to create a separate
"Vendor Promotions" board ... three or four months of a poll about whether to
create a "Vendor Promotions" board ... a strong majority vote to create a "Vendor
Promotions" board ... three or four months of waiting until they actually create a
"Vendor Promotions" board ... the mists are closing in ...

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal. (Trebor sees ... it will
be slightly dry ...)

Oh, Trebor, begotten out of Carnac, you answer fulsomely, but, given your heritage, what, pray tell, is the question?
