WWII Bletchley Park Enigma codebreaker Ruth Bourne dies aged 99

Hi All

A piece of history but a vital one:  A very smart lady.

Tributes have been paid to Second World War Bletchley Park code-breaker Ruth Bourne, who has died at the age of 99.

Ms Bourne, who grew up in Birmingham but lived High Barnet in north London, worked as a Bombe machine operator and checker at sites around Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire after joining the Wrens (Women's Royal Naval Service).

Wartime code breakers used the Bombe machine to break the Enigma code used by the Nazis to encrypt messages, changing the course of the war and preventing millions of deaths.

Sad news.  I had the honour of going to Bletchley Park about 20 years ago (arranged by a good friend in Security there.  The machines are amazing.  Most folks going to England won't spend the time to go there but it is definitely a piece of history that should be seen and shared especially with the younger folk.  We did see a short clip with her in it.

Thanks for sharing.
