The one place IT budget reductions cannot touch?

Is this the one place where IT reductions cannot touch?  Or in reality, is there still many organisations who still just don't believe it is essential to have information security and cyber security?

My incident response team would like to infinitely store all log records.  This requires infinite storage space, which costs infinite money.  

Any guesses what how the bean-counters responded?

@denbesten - what does your policy require for duration of log storage? Bean counters can't violate policy, although they can certainly get them changed.
