State Defense Force Cyber Protection Teams

This is an article that I wrote a while back about creating military style Cyber Protection Teams in State Defense Forces:

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/state-defense-force-cyber-protection-teams-robert-carleton

State defense forces are military units in the United States that operate under the sole authority of a state government. State defense forces are authorized by state and federal law and are under the command of the governor of each state.

I'm in the process of forming a Cyber Protection Team in Mississippi, as part of the Mississippi State Guard. The Mississippi State Guard is primarily implemented as an auxiliary to the Mississippi National Guard. I thought I'd share the article, in case others might find it interesting.

Robert,

NJ currently has something along those lines attached as an intelligence unit of the NJ State Police:

I'm interested in the MS State Guard concept.  Why does MS have a State Guard in addition to a National Guard component - other than the NG are also Federal Reservists?

Sincerely,

The MS State Guard augments the MS National Guard with their in-state mission, especially when the National Guard is deployed. Their mission can be found in MS Code § 33-5-51 (2017):
