Sony claims it owns Bach?

Sony, who have been so over-the-top in terms of protecting their intellectual property that they once created a virus stealthing technology in order to do so, has done it again.

Musician posts a video of himself playing a piece by Bach.

Sony posts a takedown notice.

Musician posts a counter-notice, explaining that it is him playing Bach, and Bach died 300 years ago, so it's out of copyright protection.

Sony says they own it anyway.

(After a wee bit of social media pressure, Sony finally backs off.)

As written for harpsichord by J.S. Bach (1685-1750), as arranged for piano by Ferruccio Busoni (1886-1924), as as performed by Glenn Gould (1932-1982), and as recorded by Gould on the Sony label in 1955... By any measure, 47 seconds out of three minutes is pretty absurd.
