Re-inventing the Wheel: The Cyber Security Body Of Knowledge

Ok so I have just heard about this, and it seems to be a badly thought out project which as usual for Government funded projects is getting badly executed. The basic aim of the project is:

"The Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK) project aims to codify the foundational and generally recognised knowledge on cyber security. CyBOK is meant to be a guide to the body of knowledge—the knowledge that it codifies already exists in literature such as textbooks, academic research articles, technical reports, white papers and standards. The project’s focus is, therefore, on mapping established knowledge and not fully replicating everything that has ever been written on the subject. Educational programmes ranging from secondary and undergraduate education through to post-graduate and continuing professional development programmes can then be developed on the basis of CyBOK"

the draft of their first two Knowledge Areas and their scoping document is hosted at www.cybok.org, and the project is being run by accademics out of the university of bristol.

Has anyone had a chance to look at it yet, and what are your thoughts?

It looks like a security sub-specialty similar to what the U.S. government is putting together through the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education at https://www.nist.gov/itl/applied-cybersecurity/nice/about.
