New Zealand joins the list of places your digital life can be searched ...

Yet one more place that they can demand to search your phones, laptops, and other devices, and require that you provide a password for access.

New Zealand has a thriving tourist industry. I wonder if this new law will impact the numbers there.

Is it possible to buy a short-term phone or pre-paid phone in NZ? If so, I think the optimum mode of travelling to NZ will be to bring a bare, Powerwashed (taken back to default as-delivered state with no associated accounts or files) Chromebook in and buy a pre-paid phone while there. Powerwash the Chromebook again and ditch the phone when you leave the country. Cross the border in both directions digitally sanitized.

Of course, if you are going on vacation you shouldn't be taking your laptop
anyway ...
