Yet another of my predictions for 2021 has come true. (Well, sort of.) Microsoft has made an announcement of a practical application for homomorphic encryption, which they are using in Edge.
Yeah, right.
What they are really doing is an optimized form of hashing for storing passwords. Gee, who would have thought of using hashing to store passwords! Wait, didn't someone think of that sixty or seventy years ago? And haven't we been using that technology ever since? It's one of the "bad examples" of homomorphic encryption I used in my presentation about the technology ...
