In Memoriam: Hiroshi Yasuda

Hello all,

We are sharing this message to our Community on behalf of our CEO, Clar Rosso –

I wanted to inform you of the passing of a valued former member and ISC2 trailblazer in Japan. Professor Hiroshi Yasuda passed away on 25th July, although public information was only released this week.

Professor Yasuda served as a member of ISC2’s Asian Advisory Council and then went on to serve two terms as a Board member, from 2013-2015 and 2016-2018.

He played a critical role supporting ISC2’s entry into Japan. True to our values of lifelong learning, he gained his CISSP at 60 years old in 2005. He did this to encourage more professionals to become certified and was very open (and humble) about his two attempts to earn his CISSP to demonstrate that failure is always an opportunity to learn and do better next time.

After a successful career at NTT, Professor Yasuda joined Tokyo University in 1997. A decade later he joined Tokyo Denki University’s (TDU) Graduate School of Science and Technology for Future Life, becoming Dean in 2011, and retiring as President in 2019.  While at TDU, Professor Yasuda helped introduce the CISSP to the graduate school and enabled the inclusion of the CISSP in the CySec program.

Professor Yasuda has received numerous awards, most notably The Medal with Purple Ribbon, which he received from the Emperor of Japan in 2009. This medal is only awarded to those who have contributed most to academic and artistic developments, improvements, and accomplishments.

Please join me in celebrating a life well-lived, a life of service and sacrifice and role modelling the very best of ISC2’s principles and values.

Thank you for sharing.

A great loss to the Community.  I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside the Professor.

His contributions and insights will be missed.
