At about 2 pm (PST) on January 9th, a whole bunch of security media all posted pretty much the same story. It reports on ICEPick-3PC, a piece of Android malware.
Here's one report from Infosecurity Magazine. Here's another from ThreatPost.
If you read both (or go to Google and search for the others) you'll find they all use pretty much the same wording. But they don't make an awful lot of sense.
I'd say this was a classic case of a bunch of reporters reporting on something they don't really understand. The story switches between talking of "stealing IPs" (presumably IP addresses: possibly amalgamating devices into a botnet? since IcePick-3PC seems to be Android malware) and "stealing IP" (possibly relating to intellectual property, since IcePick-3PC seems to hork up data en masse). I suspect a media blast from someone, although I have been able to nail down a "root" source so far.
