BioChipping Employees- Physical Security or Privacy?

Chipping pets has been around for years.

Chipping people has, too, but not nearly so wide spread.

The Guardian has reported that the idea of chipping employees is being discussed by employers, and unions are expressing concern.

Alarm over talks to implant UK employees with microchips
Trades Union Congress concerned over tech being used to control and micromanage

Consider:

Having chips in all employees and readers placed around the facility, in addition to being connected to IT systems for identification and authentication, could greatly benefit physical security and insider threat protection.

Of course, that same system could become an amazingly intrusive invasion of privacy.

So... would you recommend a chip program as part of the security program at a company you were advising?

Alternately, if your employer set up a voluntary chip program, would you get a chip?

Or, if your employer announced a mandatory program, would you quit?

That is precisely and explicitly why Bitcoin was developed and released: to provide a monetary exchange system that was not subject to regulation, oversight, taxation, or even awareness by any government. Note that all efforts by various governments to oversee and control Bitcoin transactions have focused on exchange services, and not the core Bitcoin system, itself. While it is not clear that the intent was to provide an exchange system for criminal or illicit transactions, the very features of Bitcoin is why it was adopted so quickly for commerce on the Dark Web.

Of course Bitcoin is only one (and a not very stable) digital cash technology ...

While I am against the premise for privacy reasons, there is an advantage to Bio-chipping.

You cannot lose a chip, it is less expensive, and can be combined for 2 or 3 factor authentication to increase security access. If the chip is inserted in the hand a special glove can mask the chip for privacy.

Would you shake some ones gloved hand???

What if the person shaking your hand cloned your chip, or EMP it.

Surgeons are not cheap to replace it?

And taking note from Daniel Cuthberts comments on chopping off fingers, it will be whole hands being dismembered. At least I can keep my body whole if I stick with a bank card 🙂

Prospects for mandatory bio-chipping look bleak in the UK:

Mandatory Implantation of Microchips in Employees? UK Gov’t Says it Would Likely be Illegal

"groups in Britain ranging from the Confederation of Business Industry to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) have spoken out against the prospect of companies forcing implants on employees, a step that could facilitate constant monitoring.

TUC secretary-general Francis O’Grady said in a statement this week new technologies should not be allowed to compromise a worker’s right to privacy. Employers should negotiate with their workforce about monitoring policies, he said."

Interesting that the trade unions are chiming in on privacy issues.

An interesting debate, especially as New Zealand is going through a similar Identities discussion, I am sure Bio-chipping is bound to come up - the driver similar to Sweden reducing costs of services to communities.

We can thank the great barons who rebelled and won us our rights and freedoms.

Without Magna Carta, it would possibly be deemed legal in the UK.

Then we would be one step closer to that awful film 'The humanity bureau' where unproductive employees could be deleted and packed up as fertilizer and shipped off on a pallet.

In this day and age somebody's just as likely to kill you for your bank card as to take your hand. Biological diseases are usually passed through skin contact so a handshake could be deadly.
An EMP would take out all Electronics in about a mile radius. Not a likely scenario.
There are information security people probably all around you looking for a better way to protect your data.

As I said before I would not opted for this procedure but I understand I need for additional measures, or better measures.

And when we have all been tagged; then the mini low orbit satellites can report to central federal control, exactly where one is located with an exact point in in time, date and location.
