I'll go ahead and kick this off with two of the questions that I received often at Security Congress this year: "How do I find a chapter near me?" and "There's not a chapter near me, but I want to see what my next steps would be to go about forming one or working with locals to find an interest. What information is available for this?"

Hi @SamanthaO_isc2

Great questions - we get these all the time so I would love to help share the information and answer those questions!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To answer your first question of "How do I find a chapter near me?":

There are chapters located all over the globe - chances are there is probably one near you! In order to find a chapter that may be close to you, you can easily visit our chapter directory. The directory lists the chapters with their contact information (chapter location, contact name, contact email, chapter website, etc.) and it also displays a map that shows all Official and Chartering Chapters across the globe!

Check out the (ISC)² Chapter Directory to find a chapter near you: https://www.isc2.org/chapters/chapter-directory

To answer your second question of "There's not a chapter near me, but I want to see what my next steps would be to go about forming one or working with locals to find an interest. What information is available for this?":

Sometimes, members may learn that there is not yet a chapter formed near them. Don't worry - you can start a chapter in your area!

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about starting a local (ISC)² chapter, you can find out everything you need to know on our "Start a Chapter" page, which outlines the requirements for chapter petitioners, includes the chartering chapter guidelines (which outline the steps to charter a new chapter), and allows you to preview the chartering chapter petition as well as see the timeline for when new applications will be accepted in your area.

Learn more about starting a new chapter in your area: https://www.isc2.org/Chapters/Start-Chapter

As always, if you have further questions or need clarification for any information provided here, you can always email us at chapters@isc2.org and we would be happy to answer any questions you have!

Thank you for your interest in the (ISC)² Chapter Program!

Another popular question that I have heard has been - "Do you need to be a member of (ISC)² to join a chapter?"  What would be the benefits of membership for a member or non-member within a chapter?

Hi @@SamanthaO_isc

"Do you need to be a member of (ISC)² to join a chapter?" is another popular question we receive, and the answer is "No".  Anyone who is interested in cybersecurity is eligible and welcome to join an (ISC)² Chapter. Many of our chapters hold study groups for those who are plan to take an (ISC)² credential examination, as well as have presentations from cybersecurity experts that might be of interest to anyone who is interested in entering the field or the topic in general. Ultimately our chapters help advance the (ISC)² vision of inspiring a safe and secure cyber world, and we invite anyone to join us in accomplishing this!

That's it for today's Inside (ISC)² with our Chapter Relations Team. A big thank you to @paulablalock & @isc2jade for answering those top questions. If you have any further questions about chapters, please feel free to drop a comment and our team will respond as soon as they can.

Just a quick note here, too. This will be our last Inside (ISC)² of 2018. On top of any questions that you may have about Chapters, I encourage you to leave feedback about this series that we do so we can bring the people you want to hear from and the topics you want to discuss. Feel free to leave those comments or comments about timing, frequency, or anything else below. You can also reach out to me directly either through a Private Message (just click on my username, then the button to message me) or by email at community@isc2.org.
