Condition to pass CISSP

Dear all,

Please help me to clear this question

I'm concerning about Condition to pass CISSP exam. As I read and understand, I need to achieve a minimum of 700/1000 points, which is 70% of the test. But this requirement of meeting a minimum of 70% means that all 8 Domains must answer 70% of the questions correctly, or is it calculated based on a total score of 700? For example, if one domain answers 80% to compensate for another domain that only gets 60%, the total score is still 700, will it pass this test?

Thank for all and hope receiving help from you!

I do not believe that this is how the process works but think it best to ask one of the folks in Exam Development to give you the proper answer.

@CBMExamTeam Would you be able to assist this user in understanding how the scoring happens on the exam?  Many thanks

ISC2 will never tell us for sure because of exam integrity, but the CISSP is an adaptive exam.  So it will depend on your knowledge and answers.  So Thor maybe has the most realistic thoughts on that have heard and believe is on his no cost how to study class.  This is why a test will end somewhere between 100 and 150 questions (25 of the first 100 are beta/pre-test questions).  It will end when a person either has met the requirement or has no possibility of passing based on how they answer.  So let's just assume is a pass.  100 questions will mean that made the algorithm very happy and should be at least 70% of those.  Thor believes that get harder questions worth more points if are answering correctly.  150 means that were on the fence but finally managed to pass.  I would highly suggest doing the CC first for anyone even considering the CISSP.  The self-study training and exam voucher are no cost for most.  It is the general knowledge that a CISSP would need (no analytical questions).  I believe that it relieves a lot of the stress of taking an ISC2 exam before the CISSP.  Also small victories are good.  It is a linear exam, but is good practice because questions are like the CISSP, one and done (you cannot go back to a question).

Thank you for reaching out via the ISC2 Community Board.

The short answer to your question, " if one domain answers 80% to compensate for another domain that only gets 60%, the total score is still 700, will it pass this test?" is YES.

Remember - the CISSP exam is delivered CAT - Computerized Adaptive Testing. This format moves a candidate through the exam based on their individual responses.

Because we are limited in what we can cut/paste here in Community, I refer you to these web pages where you can read verbatim about the CAT and CAT exam scoring.

Thank you.  Yes, being adaptive makes it a little more interesting.  I appreciate the information as I help our workforce in preparing for their cybersecurity certifications.  I essentially tell our folks to be as prepared as they can and to always carry the exam objectives (exam outline) with them to remind themselves and and to identify knowledge gaps.
