CISSP Experience Requirement - Associate

I have two questions regarding the work experience requirement for ISC2 certification.

  1. First, I would like to understand how the ISC2 Associate status works. If someone passes the CISSP exam, they have six years to gain the required work experience. For example, if a person has 3 years of experience in 2 out of the 8 domains at the time they pass the exam, do they then need to gain only 2 more years of experience to obtain the certification?
  2. Second, how is the 5-year work experience requirement calculated? If someone has 2 years of experience in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), 5 years in Security Architecture and Engineering, and 3 years in Identity and Access Management (IAM), would this count as a full 5 years of experience? Or would 5 years of experience in IAM and GRC, individually in each of them, suffice?

So have a good read of:

https://www.isc2.org/certifications/cissp/cissp-experience-requirements

And:

https://www.isc2.org/certifications/associate

Then ask any specific question’s these don’t answer for you. They should be comprehensive.

Thank you, my question would be a clarification, if I have 3 years of experience and pass the exam, as an associate I can submit request for CISSP certification in two years right?
