In support of this mission, the Senior IT Project Manager will have day-to-day responsibilities of the Project Management Office (PMO) processes to analyze requirements, designs, and implementation project documentation, plans, and schedules. In addition to overseeing implementation projects, the IT Sr. Project Manager will assist with managing internal resources as well as vendor implementation teams. 

The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the solutions that are implemented satisfies the business requirements, meets contracted requirements, and delivers the value required by the client. The Senior IT Project Manager monitors the Scope of Work, Project Plan, schedule and is responsible for ensuring that deliverables and milestones are met and that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the customer’s satisfaction.  The Senior IT Project Manager plays a key role throughout the projects. 

The Senior IT Project Manager will assist with managing other IT Project Managers and the overall portfolio of IT projects.

Position Responsibilities

The Senior IT Project Manager’s responsibility, as the leader of the Project Management Office (PMO),  includes oversight and reporting for the following areas:

  • Project Integration Management – The processes required to ensure that the various elements of the project are properly coordinated – consisting of project charter development, preliminary scope statement development, project management plan development, project management plan execution, and integrated change control
  • Project Scope Management – The processes required to ensure that the project includes all the work required, and only the work required, to complete the project successfully – consisting of scope planning, scope definition, creating the work breakdown structure (WBS), scope verification, and scope control
  • Project Time Management – The processes required to ensure timely completion of the project – consisting of activity definition, activity sequencing, activity resource estimating, activity duration estimating, schedule development, and schedule control
  • Project Cost Management – The processes required to ensure that the project is completed within the approved budget – consisting of cost estimating, cost budgeting, and cost control
  • Project Quality Management – The processes required to ensure that the project will satisfy the needs for which it was undertaken – consisting of quality planning, quality assurance, and quality control
  • Project Human Resource Management – The processes required to make the most effective use of the people involved with the project – consisting of human resource planning and acquiring/ developing/ managing the project team
  • Project Communications Management – The processes required to ensure timely and appropriate generation, collection, dissemination, storage, and ultimate disposition of project information – consisting of communications planning, information distribution, performance reporting, and managing stakeholders
  • Project Risk Management – The processes concerned with identifying, analyzing, and responding to project risk – consisting of risk management planning, risk identification, quantitative risk analysis, qualitative risk analysis, risk response planning, and risk monitoring and control
  • Organizational change management (OCM) – The processes of adhering to change management principles to help mitigate the challenges that the organization will face when implementing the system
  • Executive Buy-in: Make sure there is buy-in from leadership.  Without buy-in from everyone in leadership the project will not be successful.
  • Employee engagement: Organizational readiness is critical with IT projects to ensure all issues and opportunities are mitigated across the enterprise. Engaging and involving employees leads to quantifiable benefits realization in the long run
  • Communications: Communication within an IT project is vital but incredibly difficult. Project and communications teams must have a plan for how they will provide updates and coach managers on how to best deliver the messages to their teams. Again, language, culture, and level of experience among end-users have a significant influence on messaging
  • Training: Change management plans must be devised to address workforce transition to the new IT system and who will be super-users and trainers.  Failing to fully develop a training strategy can have serious implications on the success of an IT implementation.
  • Work closely with solution architects, technical teams (both internally and vendor), functional analysts to oversee project scope and track metrics on schedule, budget, and with high-quality deliverables
  • Communicate effectively with clients and vendors regarding the IT project, technology, and functionality.
  • Monitor required controls and propose improvements as required, including quality plans, issues and action logs, risk management plans, and change control plans, for all aspects of the project
  • Responsible to monitor design and implementation concerning Statement of Work, purchase orders, price quotes, and other contractual materials as part of scheduling and deploying resources
  • Ensure business and assignment risks are identified, monitored, and managed to achieve minimal disruption to the project delivery and success

 

Qualifications

 

Skills and Experience (Required)

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent is required for this position
  • Five years or more of experience in project management for a large complex or public sector company
  • Three years or more experience managing IT projects 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Education (Preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management or a related field of study or four years of equivalent of years of experience in a related field
  • Seven years of experience in project management
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
