In support of this mission, the Senior Network Engineer will participate in installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure equipment, telecommunication systems and network security infrastructure. This position reports to the Tollway IT Network Manager.
Essential Job Functions
The Senior Network Engineer builds and maintains the network infrastructure that supports the day to day business operations of the Tollway. This position is also responsible for providing end user technical support and assistance. This position will work primarily at HQ and occasionally at field sites on the Tollway that contain network hardware and software.
Principle Accountabilities
- Troubleshoot and correct complex network problems, outages, and security threats.
- Manage, monitor, and maintain network equipment and security infrastructure.
- Upgrade network hardware and software components as required.
- Design, implement, configure and secure, new and emerging technologies.
- Respond to the needs and questions of users for general technical support, access, resources, and security.
- Monitor computer programs that control user access to the ISTHA network.
- Perform complex technical analysis of software. hardware. and network systems firewalls, access networks, LAN/WAN communications, and wireless communications. and various transmission systems to determine vulnerabilities and develop mitigation plans to address them.
- Document root cause for network issues.
- Coordinate installation of security operating system software and hardware, test, maintain, document and modify configurations.
- Work with the development and systems integration group to ensure all proprietary and third-party applications are properly integrated within the ISTHA network and security structure.
- Document all steps taken to modify systems and all procedures required to implement changes to the network and security hardware and software, following all related Change Control policies and procedures.
- Follow Tollway defined processes including SLA requirements, ticket updates and acknowledging network alarms.
- Create and maintain network infrastructure documentation and diagrams.
- Conduct feasibility studies for strategic and tactical plans, design of networks, and evaluation of network security services/technology for current and future network development.
- Validate attacks against the network, assess overall impact, and act to eliminate identified threats and prevent future incidents.

This position will challenge the following skill sets:
- Hands-on installation, configuration and maintenance of network routers, L2/L3 switches and security equipment
- Copper and fiber optic structured cabling systems.
- Advanced Network Engineering and troubleshooting.
- Switching technologies such as VLANS, Trunking, VTP and STP.
- Significant knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP & VRF.
- Knowledge of Internet connectivity, and VPN, IPSEC, port forwarding.
- Skills in WAN technology like DWDM, MPLS, MetroEthernet, and PPP.
- Enterprise level wireless networking and VOIP.
Qualifications
Education (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 6 years network technical experience or 10 years network technical experience in a large Enterprise environment (>25 sites and >2000 users).
Education (Preferred)
- Active Cisco network certification a plus.
